The youngest Knowles sister, Solange, not only creates beautiful alternative R&B and soul but also owns her own record label named Saint Records. Earlier this month the record label released a compilation album featuring artists such as Jhené Aiko, Cassie, Sampha and the woman herself. “Cash In” is a great example of a Solange’s experimental R&B and really showcases her smooth as honey voice. If you dig it, have a listen to some of her other sweet tunes such as “Losing You” and “Some Things Never Seem To Fucking Work”. She’ll be releasing her third album early 2013.
It must be tiresome being constantly compared to sister Beyonce, but I think Solange has definitely carved a space for herself in the R&B world. If Beyonce is the pop queen, Solange is the cool indie darling.
Hometown: Houston, Texas, USA.
Latest Album: Saint Heron, out 11 November 2013.
Sounds like: AlunaGeorge, Angel Haze, Jessie Ware.
Say what? Solange has also done some acting, and starred in the fourth Bring It On movie (yes, there was a fourth movie) “Bring It On: All or Nothing”. Let’s just hope she sticks with her singing career.
