With Bloc Party’s indefinite hiatus still continuing, frontman Kele Okereke has continued his solo work, this time collaborating with fellow Brit Bobbie Gordon on a world first – the first ever commercially sold 3D-printed music record (love the mix of cutting-edge technology and music! For more check out the video below). This record was part of Bacardi Beginnings, a music mentoring program which pairs new artists with established ones on projects that test the boundaries of music production. Previous projects include a collaboration between Rudimental and soul-singer Bipolar Sunshine – a new track in just 24 hours. Unfortunately for those of us on the other side of the world, this limited edition record was only sold in pop-up stores in London on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th December, with proceeds going to British music charity Nordoff Robbins. Just missed it!
Although Bobbie Gordon is new to us, she already has some recognition in the music industry, lending her vocals to Cee-Lo Green, The Noisettes and One Republic. She was also a backing vocalist for Adele, accompanying the powerhouse at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards. Now she’s taking centre stage with her own upcoming EP Skin.
“Down Boy” is a fun track that showcases Gordon’s vocals and Okereke’s talent as a producer, with a sound reminiscent of Disclosure or AlunaGeorge.
Hometown: London, England.
Latest Album: Kele’s latest EP Heartbreaker was released November 2013; Bobbie Gordon has a new EP Skin soon to be released
Sounds like: Bloc Party, Disclosure, AlunaGeorge.
Say What? Kele is working on a novel at the moment – singer, guitarist, producer, and novelist??
