Attention Australia, we have been given a gift and that gorgeous gift is called OKENYO. This half Kenyan, half Aussie neo soul songstress is what you’ve been looking for all your life.

Right now, she’s Sydney’s little secret but we’re crossing our fingers and toes hoping she makes it big, cause she’s just that good. With her expressive lyrics and put your heart in your mouth kind of voice, Okenyo pulls you into a whole new mysterious world.

She’s experienced Australia’s weird and different landscapes from living in the middle of the expansive Tanami Desert to cold little Tassie. Okenyo’s dreamy voice was picked up by Jinja Safari in 2013 supporting them on their “Bay of Fires” tour, with her track “Broken Chest” quickly peaking on Triple J just a week later.

Now, Okenyo’s new track “Just A Story” is the apple to your pie. Okenyo’s fresh and unique neo soul jams will make you want to wish you’d known about her sooner. The track kicks off with syncopated strings, with Okenyo’s booming voice leaping through and letting you know something great is about to happen.

The drum beat kicks in, her smooth rhyme and rhythm start and the rest of the playful melodies are made for ear paradise.

She’s classier than Cleopatra eating chocolate dipped strawberries stretched out and laying elegantly on a couch, with her charismatic soulful sound and chic sense of style. With a touch of Solange Knowles x Frank Ocean, you’ll be as proud as punch that this fuzzy-haired sensation hails from our very own sandy shores.

She’s riding on the new and emerging wave of neo soul and we like it, we like it a lot.

Keep your eyes open, Okenyo’s coming through.

Sounds like: Frank Ocean, MIA, Solange Knowles.
Say what? Okenyo wrote “Just A Story” in her apartment on a scorching hot day in Sydney after having a fight with a friend. Maybe people need to start fights with Okenyo more often, cause this track is gold.
