REVIEW // Marcus Marr & Chet Faker // The Trouble With Us

The Trouble WIth Us

Chet Faker freaked everyone out this week by shaving his beard (it was bound to happen one day) and releasing music a little removed from his norm.

It was like a classy version of Britney Spears circa 2007.

He’s a fan of a collab – his work with Flume on the 2013 EP Lockjaw is what one could call “nailing it”. And this track “The Trouble With Us” and upcoming EP with London artist Marcus Marr is tentatively falling into the same category.

It was always a risk straying from his trademark smooth crooner tunes but his soulful voice lends itself to such a broad spectrum of music, so naturally, it works. It ventures into pop funk territory (with Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk“…is a funk revival coming?) but what separates it is the ear-catching, unconventional production that Marcus Marr’s DFA Records dance music experience brings to the table.

Chet Faker will be going on tour – Built on Live at the end of October.

THE BREAKDOWN:
Hometown: London, UK; Melbourne, Australia.
Upcoming EP: Work, out 4 December 2015.
Sounds like: Very Pharrell-esque.
Say what? Chet Faker will be headlining a Ray-Ban x Boiler Room special in Melbourne in November. Can’t miss this.

Exclusively hand-picked just for you, by Jane.
