REVIEW // Verge Collection – Our Place

Verge Collection

Think Courtney Barnett but in the form of four guys. This is Verge Collection.

Try listen to their song “Our Place” without clicking play again immediately after it finishes. It was released at the end of last year but I had to share it for its relatability, quintessential local charm and catchiness. Verge Collection is influenced by “australia, alcohol“, and this shows true in their music. Lyrics like, “Well it must be pretty nice living off something that’s not tuna and rice” and “You’ve been spending all your pennies on drugs, and booze, and good nights out”. Don’t we all know that feel?

According to them, their sound is a result of their musical limitations, but you couldn’t tell. This melody is driving and their style feels authentic.

2016 may very well be their year to shine and they’ve kicked it off in style – winning triple j Unearthed’s Southbound competition in January.

THE BREAKDOWN:

Hometown: Perth, Australia.
Sounds like: Courtney Barnett, Kurt Vile, Mac DeMarco.
Say what? The drummer of Verge Collection is actually their dad. They had different mums, and when the dad tracked them down, they bonded over music and started a band.

Exclusively hand-picked just for you, by Jane.
