REVIEW // Confidence Man – Boyfriend (Repeat)

Confidence Man

This song’s title is a reflection of what you’ll do with this song – repeat x repeat x repeat.

‘Boyfriend (Repeat)’ makes me wonder what people far in the past or far in the future would think of our current music landscape. This is one of those songs that make you realise how broad the term “music” reaches. But this is a bit of a thing now – cleverly layered spoken vocals over dance music. ‘Jack’ by Breach anyone? “I want your body everybody wants your body so let’s jack.” Try get that out of your head for the rest of today.

The band Confidence Man is made up of members named as Janet Planet, Sugar Bones, Reggie Goodchild and Clarence McGuffie. They’re thus far quite a mystical band. There’s not a whole lot of information floating around out there, apart from their selling point: “Confident music for confident people”.

“My boyfriend wants to talk. My boyfriend talks too much. Too much about our love. Our love is not enough.” These quipped, dryly-spoken statements are hilarious, and even more comedic is the boyfriend-in-question’s replied muttering underneath this main audio. Man does he surely sound irritating. Time to confidently let this guy go?

THE BREAKDOWN:

Based in: Brisbane, Australia.
Sounds like: Broadway Sounds, No Zu, SOPHIE.
Say what? To add to their mystique, we’ll just leave this here: “Confidence Man. Confident music for confident people.” Janet Planet – Confidence Man, September 2016.

  1. From her Triple J interview she’s comes off as a massively sexist pig – there’s something wrong with men who need support? Keep enforcing those gender roles, suicide is unrelated!
